Add a web counter

How to add a web counter to your space

A web counter is a public way of showing the world how many people have visited your space. There are a number of free web counters available, but I'm going to show you how to use one from:

To add the counter to your space, do the following:
  • Go to http://www.amazingcounters.com/
  • Click on 'Sign Up' (note: signing up is free)
  • Select the style of your hit counter
  • Click on the 'Use selected style & Go to Step 2' button
  • Enter your personal details, ensuring that you put the website address of your MSN Space in the 'Site URL' text box.
  • Click on the 'Submit info & Go to Step 3:' button

Important: Before you continue, please be aware that these free counters come with an advertising link. The information provided on the Amazing Counters page, when you reach Step 3, asks you not to remove that advertising link. However, it does state that you can choose what you're advertising. It's up to you what you wish to do.

  • Click on the 'click to select code' link (note: this should highlight the text in the box below the link)
  • Hold down the CTRL key and press C (note: this will copy the code in the box below the link)
At this point you can choose to add your counter to your Space in one of two ways.

Method 1 - Adding a counter to blog entries
  • Create a new blog entry or edit an existing entry
  • Press the <HTML> button on your blog editor
Note: When you press the <HTML> button you are enabling advanced blog editing features, you will notice that the contents of the blog editing space change. Text will often be encapsulated in what are known as HTML tags e.g. <P>your text</P>. Don't let this worry you, you're almost done.
  • Select the point in the blog entry you wish the counter to appear
  • Hold down the CTRL key and press V (note: this will past the code you copied into your blog entry at the point selected)
  • Publish your blog entry as and when you desire.

Method 2 - Adding a counter to your main page

To add a counter to your main page you need to make use of the Custom HTML PowerToy, you can add that PowerToy to your Space by using these instructions

Once the Custom HTML PowerToy has been added to your Space, you can add a counter to your main page using the following steps:
  • Paste the counter code (right-click in the box and select paste) you copied earlier into the Custom HTML module/box.
  • Press the Save button.

order your friends list

you can order friends using,

POWERTOY Sandbox

This Custom HTML Power Toy is designed to allow you to add a sandbox module to your Space in which you can enter text, link to images, and use other HTML features.
The Custom HTML Power Toy supports all of the same HTML that you can enter into a Blog entry and can be moved around your Space as a separate module, just like a list or any other Spaces module.
Additionally you can control the Title of this module and whether the borders for this module are displayed or not.

HOW TO ADD IT:
Click edit your space.
When in edit mode look at the address in the bar above it should be something like

http://spaces.msn.com/members/yourspacename/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1&_c=

How Much Food Do You Waste?

So apparently we throw away a third of our food:
"Figures from the Government waste watchdog Wrap (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) show that people throw away a total of 6.7 million tonnes of food a year."

Can we continue to criticise supermarkets about excessive packaging etc when we're acting so irresponsibly?

Is this just a symptom of today's 'greed culture' and what can we do about it?

RND 2007

Red Nose Day 2007

Today, the 6th form team at Steyning Grammar School, West Sussex, held events in which to raise money for 'Comic relief'.

The 6th formers found many interesting and fun ways to raise the money. These events included:

  • A 'Inter form Tug-Of-War' competition
  • Leg Waxing
  • Karaoke
  • Baked Bean Bath
  • A fashion show
Yesterday at 11:15am, the 'tug-of-war' competiton was held on the school playing feild. The form groups had to choose 6 students to take part in 'the tug-of-war'. This was good fun for all the students, either taking part, or cheering their form group on. At 1:00pm, the finals for the competition were held. Money was raised by charging people to spectate.

Today however, the main events where held. The morning began with the Karaoke being held at 11:15. It was a huge success and a good laugh as students came on stage to perform their song. The hosts of this were myselfm (ben Flenley) and Ben Ryan (a close friend).

This was continued at 1:00pm where the host was Jamie Topp. The karaoke had performances from many students and teachers. After asking a few friends about what there favourite acts were, the most common was a school since teacher, Mr.Linney, who sung Who Let The Dogs Out by the Baha Men.

At same time as the morning karaoke, the fashion show was held. I heard this was a great laugh too. It was hosted Jamie Topp.

In order to raise more money, male students were nominated to have their legs waxed.

Finally, the other event being held was the baked bean bath. This consisted of couples being sat in a bath full of baked beans. If that wasn't enough, students paid 50p for a cup of baked beans, in which they tipped over the students in the bath. this was very messy, but very enjoyable to watch.

Overall, it was a very fun day with a lot of hard work put into it by the students and lecturers. Well done to everyone who participated and helped make the day work.
